The Department is open from 8:30AM until 4:30PM most days. For after hours emergencies the City of Long Branch Police Department should be contacted.
The Health Department provides a comprehensive program of public health and other services to the community.
Citizens can obtain copies of birth, marriage and death certificates from the Department in person or by mail. To obtain these records you will need a government issued identification (ID) with a picture that reflects your current physical address. Or you will need 2 forms of identification with current physical address. Applicants requesting a copy of a vital record with the Local Registrar must fully identify the record.

Please note that according to the Governor’s Executive Order only the following persons are entitled to a certified copy of a vital record: subject, subject’s parent, legal guardian or legal representative, spouse, child, grandchild or sibling, if of legal age.

Business or mercantile licenses, which must be obtained in the City of Long Branch, can also be obtained at the Health Department. For any new business a written approval from the Zoning Officer must first be obtained. Applications can be obtained from the Health Department or by calling the Health Department. The fee for a mercantile license is $50.

Animal ControlThe City of Long Branch Health Department provides a comprehensive program to residents for animal control. All dogs owned by residents of Long Branch must be licensed by the Health Department.
To obtain a license you must present current proof of rabies vaccination.
Licenses are $10.00 for spayed or neutered dogs and $15.00 for non-spayed or non-neutered. Proof of above is required. The Health Department provides a free rabies clinic in January for dogs and cats. Contact the Department for more information.
Animal Control Officers enforce regulations in the City of Long Branch with regards to at-large animals and pet waste. Dogs are not permitted to be at large unless on private property. Dogs are not permitted at-large on our beaches. All dogs must be leashed when being walked on public thoroughfares. Pet owners or anyone who takes a pet for a walk must properly dispose of the waste.

Health Inspections and EnforcementThe Health Department has a comprehensive program of public health inspections and enforcement.
All Food Establishments in the city must be licensed and inspected regularly. If you have a complaint call the department for more information.
All Pools and Beaches in the city must be licensed and inspected regularly according to local and state regulations.
The Health Department investigates issues regarding Housing and Public Health. If you have a public health complaint about a housing condition call the department for more information.
The Health Department investigates cases of Communicable Disease and provides information to residents when requested.
The Health Department inspects licensed facilities such as Day Care Centers and Schools public health compliance including immunization status of children.
A comprehensive program of Environmental Investigations is on-going in the department involving issues such as hazardous materials in the environment and lead poisoning.
The Health Department is a member of the City’s Local Emergency Planning Committee that oversees the complicated issues involving emergencies in the community.
The Health Department works with and contracts with area health departments to plan and respond to Regional Public Health Issues.
At all levels the department offers Health Education Information to residents seeking more information about issues affecting them and their families.
