HUB Zone: Eligibility Criteria for the Program
Only companies certified by the SBA are eligible to participate in the HUB Zone program. To qualify for the program, a small business must meet all of the following criteria:
-
The company's principal office must be located within a "HUB Zone," which includes lands on federally recognized Native American reservations;
-
The company must be owned and controlled by one or more U.S. citizens; and
-
At least 35 percent of the company's employees must be HUB Zone residents. To fulfill this requirement, employees must live in a primary residence within that area for at least 180 days or be a currently registered voter.
Existing businesses that choose to move to qualified areas are eligible. 8(a) firms located in HUB Zone areas, or that decide to relocate, will be able to receive contracting opportunities under both programs.
