Department of Public Works: Garbage and Recycling Pickup Schedule
South of Broadway: Garbage Monday & Thursday, Recycling Thursday
North of Broadway: Garbage Tuesday & Friday Recycling Friday
All of Broadway and the "Wall Street Section" (located south of Broadway, west of Norwood, north of Wall and east of Oakwood) follow the North of Broadway collection schedule.
The Volunteer Recycling Drop-off Center for Residents located on Atlantic Avenue is open Monday - Friday 9 AM - 3 PM and Saturdays 9 AM - 12 PM. Materials including brush, leaves, pourable plastic bottles, mixed paper including newspaper and cardboard are accepted. Grass clippings are not accepted. Paint, motor oil, anti-freeze and other household chemicals are not accepted. Please see "Hazardous Waste Disposal".
Hazardous Waste Disposal can be done by appointment only. Oil Based Paint is considered hazardous waste. Call the Monmouth County permanent Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 732-922-2234. They will set up an appointment and give you a location. They will also accept latex paint.
Water-Based Paint Cans must be emptied and washed with lids left off and placed at the curb for pick up. Leave separate from recyclables. If cans are full, please call Hazardous Waste for disposal.
Grass Clippings will not be accepted. Use a mower that mulches the cuttings, use in a compost pile or clip and leave on ground. Call the Monmouth County Landfill at 732-922-2234 for other ways of disposing of it.
Branches no larger than 6 inches in diameter, 4 ft. long and not more that 50 lbs. should be placed curbside for pickup. Branches can be taken to the Atlantic Avenue Site, untied, weekdays from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and on Saturdays 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. No tree stumps or trunks will be accepted.
Leaves may be bagged all year round. However, during November/December and April/May you can place leaves loosely at the curb. Please do not create a traffic hazard. Piles can be no wider than 3 ft. from the curb line into the street.
Please do not mix leaves with branches or any other types of debris. Please do not cover storm drains or fire hydrants. This will only cause problems and will not expedite pick up.
Please be patient. It takes Public Works crews approximately two to three weeks to canvas the entire city for loose leaves. Unfortunately, due to the manner in which branches and leaves are picked up, it is not possible or practical for the department to honor individual requests for pick-ups. Thank you for your understanding and tolerance regarding this slow process. Remember . . . branches (untied only) and loose or bagged leaves may be taken to the Atlantic Avenue site daily from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
NEWSPAPERS should be cross-tied with twine. NO plastic bags or junk mail, only newspapers.
BOTTLES, CANS & PLASTIC CONTAINERS can be mixed together. Place empty and clean bottles, cans and plastic containers with #1 and #2 on the bottom in reusable containers that are 32 gallons or less. Plastic bags are not recyclable. DO NOT place bottles and cans in plastic bags. A maximum of 4 containers of mixed recyclables can be placed curbside per pickup day.
BULK TRASH, (residential only) is picked up each Wednesday, except if there is a holiday on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Bulk trash consists of furniture, appliances (remove doors on refrigerators), carpeting, hot water heaters, metal, etc. Rimless tires (passenger car tires no larger than size 16") will be collected and are limited to 4 per pick up. Please separate metal and tires from other bulk trash and place on curb in an orderly manner. Please do not mix with leaves or branches.
REMEMBER . . . place trash, debris or recycling at curbs after 6:00 PM the night before collection. Containers must be removed 12 hours after pick up.
