Department of Recreation

IWelcome to the Department of Recreation.    BEACH BADGE INFORMATION

In conjunction with the Long Branch Housing Authority the Department of Recreation hosts an annual “Get on the Bus” College Tour to historically black colleges and universities (HBCU’s).  This program is held during Long Branch School's spring break and visits colleges in the southern states. The tour gives high school students that economically would not be able to visit colleges, knowledge of what college life is truly about and the requirements needed to be accepted and matriculate at a college or university.

The Jerry Morgan Park Day has been annually held since 2004.  It is a fun day with activities for all to enjoy.  There are Bocce, Horseshoe and basketball tournaments, face-painting, music groups, refreshments, games, & more.  It is a fun filled family day held in September.

Through a grant from United States Tennis Association (USTA) 30 children from our tennis program attend the Arthur Ash Youth Day during the US Open Tennis Championships in Flushing, Queens, New York.  The Long Branch Youth Tennis instructor, John Wagner along with volunteer parents accompany the youth.  The children are able to see some of the best tennis players in the world practice and play that day.

The Long Branch Department of Recreation also provides transportation for various outings to our Senior Citizen population. Some of the places the seniors have traveled include the Garden State Arts Center, Pennsylvania Dutch Country, West Point lunch cruise, cultural programs in Monmouth County, the Montel Williams TV show and the Judge Hackett TV show.
