  ARROW ABOUT THE COMMITTEE
     In an effort to help Long Branch
     become a "green", "clean" and "cool"
     city, Mayor
 Adam Schneider created
     the City's Energy Committee. This         committee consists of  members of
    various city departments and meets       with the intention of creating clean 
    energy initiatives and"green" guidelines
    for the City, its businesses and     residents. The following are members     of the committee.

       Meeting held on January 15, 2008

Updates were given on the Energy Star Clean Energy "Save a Light" campaign. With support from the Long Branch Public Library, the City of Long Branch ranked second in the state for pledges. Pledges exceeded the original goal by 255%, with a total of 510 pledges.

The committee also discussed the following:

  • City of Long Branch to be an example/mentor
  • Turbine Energy
  • "Green Tags"
  • State incentives in State Energy Master Plan
  • Solar Energy
  • Green Roofs
  • Permeable pavers/pavement
  • Transit Station/Green Transit
  • Bike paths, shelters and lockers
  • Bike rentals
  • Branding and sustainablitiy
  • Greehhouse gas inventory - carbon footprint
  • Green Purchasing Plan
  • Education for public/homeowners
  • Partnering with residents and businesses
  • Recycling Program
  • Business Energy Reduction Program and Audits
  • Tree Inventory
  • Rain Gardens

These efforts will continue to help build a greener tomorrow in Long Branch. As city progresses in creating a greener, cleaner, cooler, energy-efficient muncipality through its monthly Energy Committee meetings and developments, the Green Pages will be updated with ideas and ways that the city and its residents can work together towards this goal.
